UPDATE:

The COBR hearings are completed, and we now need to ask the Baltimore County Delegation to call for a vote to support S.B.452/H.B.773, the Correctional Officers Bill of Rights. Click here to see a recording of the hearing.

As you know, the Bill would add Baltimore County to a list of county governments & the State of Maryland that currently provide a Correctional Officers Bill of Rights.  The Bill would provide a fairer process for handling disciplinary matters. It would not in any way remove rights Baltimore County government currently has.

Click the link above to email all of the delegates and senators in Baltimore County, to urge them to call for a vote to SUPPORT SB452/HB773, the Correctional Officers Bill of Rights. Be sure to add your name and address to the end of the email.

Dear Delegate/Senator:

I am a Correctional Officer with the Baltimore County Department of Corrections.  Baltimore County has ignored opportunities to negotiate over the Correctional Officers' Bill of Rights.  These minimal due process rights should be law and not left for negotiation.  Contrary to County opposition, these minimal due process rights are not being afforded during investigations and hearings.  Now that the hearings are finished, I am writing to urge you to call for a Baltimore County Delegation vote and to support Senate Bill 452/House Bill 773.  That Bill would add Baltimore County to the list of county governments and the State of Maryland that currently provide a Correctional Officers Bill of Rights.  Those counties are Allegany, Cecil, Garrett, Harford and St. Mary’s.

A Correctional Officers Bill of Rights would simply provide us with a investigation/disciplinary process that guarantees by law minimal due process rights.  These are minimal due process rights that 10,000 State and Local Correctional Officers already have.  These are minimal due process rights that Baltimore County would like you to believe are already being afforded to Officers.  I urge your support for Senate Bill 452/House Bill 773.

Sincerely,
