CONTRACT UPDATE, May 6, 2024:

The union agreed to a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Baltimore County that comes with unprecedented gains for county workers. The agreement gives county workers in the bargaining unit scheduled cost of living adjustment (COLA) increases for pay schedules 1, 1C, and 1E in fiscal year (FY) 2025, 2026 and 2027. Additionally, there will be guaranteed schedule Steps and Longevities for FY25,FY26 and FY27, guarantee of no furloughs or layoffs for FY25,FY26 and FY27, as well as an added 8, 9 and 11-year longevity for pay schedule 1, 1C and 1E over the 3-year contract extension.  The contract was ratified by the membership by a margin of 97% on May 03, 2024.

Your Weingarten Rights

Weingarten rights guarantee an employee the right to Union representation during an investigatory interview. These rights, established by the Supreme Court, in 1975 in the case of J Weingarten Inc., must be claimed by the employee. The supervisor has no obligation to inform an employee that s/he is entitled to Union representation.

An addendum to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Baltimore County Administration and the Baltimore County Federation of Public Employees (BCFPE) expands the rights granted to Baltimore County’s correctional officers. As a result of negotiations between BCFPE officials and members of the Baltimore County administration, a new set of procedures will be followed when a county correctional officer is placed under investigation or when an officer faces disciplinary action, demotion, or dismissal.
