Holding the Line

County Administration moves forward with long sought after plans of a comprehensive salary review with other Maryland Correctional Departments.

After many years of arguing that a comprehensive comparison clearly shows there are significant short falls in long term salary compensations for the dedicated Correctional Officers at the Baltimore County Department of Corrections, the County Administration has initiated the official salary review process.  Available data shows that Baltimore County Department of Corrections Officers are making a significant amount less than their counterparts in other jurisdictions.  This deficiency is being cited as the cause for record amounts of staff leaving the department for higher paying jobs.

“We have had failed attempts with prior administrations and this issue has been a long-standing argument between the BCFPE and the County Administration,” Ripley says. “We sincerely thank Director Watts for taking this important first step and we applaud the Olszewski Administration for seeing the need to take action on this comparison for our dedicated Correctional Officers at BCDC.”

President Ripley urges Correctional Officers to “Hold the Line” as they always do, while the County Administration moves forward with this salary review process.
