This is an important week for AFT Maryland as we proudly celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, Nurses Appreciation Week, and Public Service Workers Recognition Week. AFT Maryland represents dedicated workers who keep our communities running: educators, healthcare workers, state employees, and civil servants. You are the backbone of our schools, hospitals, agencies, and institutions, and the value you bring to Maryland cannot be overstated.
Yet the reality is, your work and rights are under attack. The federal government is wrongfully terminating dedicated civil servants. Teachers are being silenced. Healthcare professionals face mounting obstacles as attacks on healthcare programs threaten their ability to care for patients.
To our educators, we continue to fight for you. The attacks on public education have not wavered our dedication to protecting your rights and fulfilling our promises to build a stronger future for our students and communities, as you continue to show up in our schools, on campuses and classrooms every day for Maryland’s students.
To our nurses and healthcare professionals, the lifesaving work you do is invaluable. Even as proven science and healthcare access have come under attack, you continue to lead with care and compassion. We will always fight to ensure you have the support, protection, safe workplaces, and respect you deserve to continue caring for our communities.
To our public service workers, you are the engine of our state and local governments. From maintaining infrastructure to delivering vital services and ensuring public safety, your work impacts every part of our communities.
AFT Maryland stands with you. You do not stand alone in the challenges you face, and we are committed to ensuring that you are heard and your dedication is recognized. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to serving our communities.
