AFT-Maryland staff and affiliate members journeyed to Wichita, Kansas, March 9-14 for a week of intensive training in the AFT organizing model and to help the Kansas Organization of State Employees (KOSE) identify potential activists and recruit new union members. The AFT-Maryland volunteers joined union members from Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, and Kansas in the joint organizing effort, which was launched as a part of the “Reclaiming the Promise of High Quality Public Services for Strong Communities,” an AFT national initiative."

Metropolitan Baltimore Council (AFL-CIO Unions) is assisting union families by giving out Holiday Baskets to Union Members who are suffering financial hardship.  The baskets  include a Giant gift certificate for a ham or a turkey and other food.  Members with children  will also receive a gift for each child from newborn to 16 years of age.

Baltimore County Federation of Public Employees (BCFPE) held a contract ratification vote on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, and the contract was ratified by a vote of 98%.

BCFPE President, John Ripley, is pleased that employees will be receiving a 3% bonus in November 2014 and a 3% Cost of Living Adjustment on July 1, 2015.

It is also noteworthy that contract extensions from 2010 through 2016 have guarenteed employees their scheduled step/longevity pay increases. This equates to 95% of our employees having seen at least one scheduled step/longevity pay increase, and some have seen several scheduled step

The Baltimore Federation of Public Employees (BCFPE) will hold a contract ratification vote on Monday, October 21, from 6:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the union’s offices, 25 W. Chesapeake Avenue, Suite 208, in Towson, Maryland. The ballots will be counted after voting has closed at 6:00 p.m., and the results will be announced immediately after completion of the count. Voting is for union members only. All voters must have valid identification to participate in the voting process. Union members are welcome to witness the counting of ballots.

*Click for the flyer*  Baltimore County Federation of Public Employees (BCFPE) president John Ripley has scheduled a meeting to discuss the Baltimore County Correctional Officers' Bill of Rights. The bill was proposed in Maryland’s last legislative session, but was not passed. BCFPE plans to promote the bill’s passage in the 2014 legislative session in Annapolis.

House Bill 1475, the Baltimore County Correctional Officers Bill of Rights received a favorable report from the House Appropriations Committee, passed the full House, and now goes to the Senate.

Baltimore County Federation of Public Employees (BCFPE) president John Ripley and Retired Correctional Lt. Mike Craig testified in favor of this bill, which proposes that a more fair and equitable administrative process be adopted for the  investigation, interrogation, and disciplinary and appeals procedures used by and for the correctional officers for Baltimore County.
