BCFPE in Annapolis

BCFPE President, John Ripley, was in Annapolis lobbying for members of the Baltimore County Federation of Public Employees. He testified to different Senate and House committees and held conversations with state leaders all for the benefit of county public employees. His goals during the meetings and conversations were to make sure the needs of municipal employees were not only heard but also considered at the state level.

BCFPE represents a diverse array of public workers employed by Baltimore County. Many of the decisions governing their work status and situation are made at the county level

UPDATE 2018-03-17: BCFPE members accepted the proposal by Ratification Vote of 67%.

The county is facing a short-term deficit because of the self-employed (often very wealthy) people under-reporting their earnings in the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2017 because of the pending federal tax reform plan. The County expects that self-employed people will begin reporting higher earnings in 2018. As a result, the County has proposed to defer the 2% COLA scheduled on July 1, 2018 to January 1, 2019 with an increase to a 3% COLA. The County proposal also includes deferring the agreed upon pension

BCFPE has received a hearing notice for the 911 Center pay grievance pending at the Court of Special Appeals. The hearing date has been set for March 6, 2018. Click here for a copy of the notice.

"Home Town Hero" modification

BREAKING NEWS (4/6/2018) Retired Correctional Officer will be added to the Maryland Public Safety Hometown Heroes Act. Beginning with tax year 2018, retired correctional officers who are 55 years old or older can subtract up to $15,000 of their public safety eligible pensions/retirement from their Maryland Taxable Income. This brings retired correctional officer equal to their other public safety (police, fire, and EMS) brothers and sisters for qualified Maryland income tax subtraction modification benefits. This legislation is past due and well deserved! The legislation now goes to Governor Hogan for signing and becomes law.

Federation Grievance: 911 Center Sick Leave SOP Changes

Attention 911 Center employees! Please see attached grievance regarding the recent 8/15/17 email from 911 Admin revising SOP A-12 Sick Leave. BCFPE is working to get these changes rescinded and held in abeyance until after we have the opportunity to enter into collective bargaining on this subject.

Officer Alfred Allen

It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform you of the death of our beloved co-worker, member and friend Officer Alfred Allen on August 14, 2017. Officer Allen began his career with the Baltimore County Department of Corrections on December 10, 2001. Many have had the honor to serve with this wonderful man and have been able to call him a true friend. Officer Allen will be deeply missed. Our deepest condolences go out to the Officer Allen’s family.

If you have not received a ballot by September 18, 2017 please notify the committee chair immediately to receive a replacement ballot.
